Wastewater Explained Simply

Wastewater is used water from homes, businesses, and industries.


Once water has been used, it enters a collection system and is transported to a wastewater

treatment facility where it is treated before being returned to the environment.


Basic wastewater treatment flow:

- Influent enters the facility

- Screening removes large materials

- Primary treatment allows solids to settle

- Biological treatment breaks down organic matter

- Clarification separates remaining solids

- Disinfection (if required)

- Effluent is discharged safely
